9629411KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – First year Diamond Vol Kyle Serrano, a right handed-pitcher from Farragut, has garnered some preseason attention from Perfect Game, one of the nation’s top baseball scouting services.

In the organization’s 2014 Southeastern Conference preview released on Wednesday, Serrano was named the SEC’s Preseason Top Freshman.

A 2013 MLB draftee, Serrano comes to Rocky Top as the No. 1 ranked prospect in the state of Tennessee and the No. 7 right-hander in the nation in the class of 2013 according to Perfect Game. He earned Louisville Slugger First Team All-American honors after posting a 7-1 record with a 1.76 ERA and 111 strikeouts in 63.2 innings of work as a senior at Farragut.

Perfect Game also listed Serrano as the league’s No. 1 Major League prospect for the 2016 MLB Draft. Additionally, shortstop A.J. Simcox (No. 3), outfielder Christin Stewart (No. 9) and left-handed pitcher Drake Owenby (No. 11) were all tabbed top SEC prospects for the 2015 MLB Draft.

First pitch of the 2014 season is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 14, when the Vols host Nebraska-Omaha at Lindsey Nelson Stadium at 4 p.m. The Big Orange opens with a 13-game homestand, starting things off with three straight days of doubleheader action with Nebraska-Omaha and Purdue.

Season tickets for the 2014 season are now available through the University of Tennessee ticket office. Tickets can be purchased 24 hours a day through UTTix.com. Fans can also purchase tickets during normal business hours (8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.) by calling the ticket office at 865-656-1200 or by visiting Thompson-Boling Arena’s street-level ticket office on Phillip Fulmer Way.
