Playing the opening game in the 2017 Gulf Coast Classic Tournament, the Admirals gave up three runs in the first inning, but still defeated Randolph School 17-3 on Monday. Randolph School’s big inning was driven by a walk by Brad Layton and a single by Crockett Worthington.
The Admirals secured the victory with a big 11-run outburst in the fourth inning. Farragut scored on a walk by Jake Grooms, a single by Justen Freeman, a walk by Ashton King, a single by Chandler Chambers, a single by Parker Noland, a double by Jake Hagenow, 2 consecutive errors, and a single by Luke Purcell.
Zach Joyce earned the win for Farragut Admirals Varsity. He tossed 3 innings, gave up 3 runs, 5 hits, with 4 strikeouts. Kraus took the loss for Randolph School. He threw 3 innings, giving up 6 runs, 4 hits, and striking out 2.
Randolph School took an early lead in the first inning. Zach Joyce walked Brad Layton with the bases loaded to drive in a run.
Farragut evened things up with 3 runs in the top of the second inning. Chambers singled on the first pitch of the at bat in the second inning, scoring two runs.
Farragut took the lead for good with three runs in the third inning. In the third Grooms singled off of Kohl Kraus, driving in one run, Kraus induced King to hit into a fielder’s choice, but another run scored, and Carson Wright hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a run.

Farragut Admirals Varsity had nine hits in the game. Chambers and Hagenow each managed two hits to lead Farragut Admirals Varsity. The Admirals played error-less baseball on a wet field, with intermittent rain during the game.
