Matt Ramsey…….aka……….Hammer in the Admiral Baseball Circles.

The Angels announced that they’ve selected the contract of right-hander Matt Ramsey from Triple-A Salt Lake and designated veteran left-hander Sam Freeman for assignment in order to open spot on the 25-man and 40-man roster. It’ll be the MLB debut for Ramsey, 29, who is in his first year in the Angels’ system. The journeyman minor league hurler spent the 2018 campaign in the Astros organization, where he pitched to a 2.04 ERA with a 63-to-16 K/BB ratio in 53 innings of relief between Triple-A (47 innings) and a quick stint with Houston’s Rookie-level affiliate (six innings)

As Coaches and Parents we use the phrase “it’s a marathon NOT a sprint” many times. Take a look at http://thebaseballcube.com/hs/profile.asp?ID=21 and click on Matts profile. Five Major League Teams and a decade later he makes it to the Bigs. I know of at least 2 Back ailments and surgery in the mix. He had made the 40 Man Roster at Tampa Bay and was tabbed to move up then when a back injury in Spring Training set the process back. After surgery and rehab, he was traded!

Add to the decade shown plus UT and the Ads, He has made this journey make a Marathon look easy. I am sure that the scouts, coaches in all the MLB teams that have come in contact with Hammer found few if any that had a better work ethic or attitude. Sometimes good things do come to those with the dedication and work at getting to the NEXT level. I am sure Hammer realizes this is an opportunity that thousands who put in the time and effort never realize. So, Matt won’t have to be told to work hard, how bout “Just Stay Healthy and ENJOY THE RIDE!!”
