KINGSPORT — Dobyns-Bennett’s march on Murfreesboro stumbled Friday night.

The Indians (33-7) lost a heartbreaking sectional baseball game to perennial power Farragut 2-1.

All the scoring was done in the first inning. The game, played before a crowd upward of 1,800, was disrupted by lightning in the second inning and resumed after a 75-minute delay.

There also was plenty of lightning on the mound.

Farragut’s Kyle Serrano and A.J. Simcox threw a combined two-hitter. D-B’s Aaron Quillen allowed only three hits and struck out 12 batters. He retired 19 of the last 21 he faced.

Farragut (35-6), winner of four consecutive Class AAA state championships, will be back in Murfreesboro to defend its TSSAA title next week. The Admirals have appeared in 12 of the last 13 state tourneys.
